Sustainability is a central value of the Amana ethos. It serves as an operational principle that drives our strategy, which has three key elements: community and social participation and internal resource generation.

Amana insists that all children in the program maintain their family, relational and community ties, and that the community participates in the program. The community has helped to build the school, and plays a leading role in selecting the most disadvantaged and eligible children to enroll in the program. More widely, Amana organization mobilizes businesses, and various organizations for in-kind services and grants for special projects. AOKCC runs and is building up a child sponsorship program to build a wider business and individual alliance around the Amana initiative. In the long term, it aspires to build an endowment to secure stable financial support for the program. But without donations we will not achieve our sustainability.

Amana Kids is guided by the principle of ‘first call for children’. It is rooted in the understanding that the early years of any human being are critical formative years. Deprivation during childhood results in a lifetime of irreversible damage. Children are the best social and economic investments that can be made, privately or publicly, especially if the future is to be better. Millions condemned to a harsh life of deprivation. There is no doubt that the children of today are the citizens, leaders, professionals and workers of tomorrow. A core focus of Amana is to assist children on the brink: those who are destitute, have lost one or both parents, or have been abandoned and are at great risk of harm and further disadvantage.
